Spec Racer Ford rental · Huntsville, AL

The Spec Racer Ford rental. Sealed, equal, ready to drive.

The best dollars per sMile.

We put you in the right car on the right track, prepared in our Huntsville shop and crewed by the same people every weekend. We chose the Spec Racer Ford Gen3 because every car in the field is the same car, so the result comes down to the driver.

See it run

See it run.

Two races, two different arguments for the same car. The first is why a sealed, equal field is the best racing you can buy. The second is what happens when the weather stops cooperating.

Fearless vs experience in the wet
A full wet race at Road Atlanta. Rain is the part of racing nobody schedules, and it is where the difference between raw speed and racecraft shows up fastest.

It's about the car

One car, sealed and equal, in every rental.

Every B2 rental is a Spec Racer Ford Gen3. The engine, the transmission, the ECU and the shocks are sealed, so the car beside you on the grid is the same car you are driving.

The car itself

Spec Racer Ford Gen3, from SportsCar Club of America

The Spec Racer Ford Gen3 is a high-performance, open cockpit, closed-wheel racecar for paved road courses manufactured and marketed by SCCA Enterprises. The racer is powered by a 135-horsepower, 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine and features suspension adjustments within described parameters. SCCA Enterprises is a subsidiary of SCCA, Inc., and the Spec Racer Ford is the ultimate spec competition. All major components are sealed and monitored for compliance at the race events. The SRF is quick and reliable, and it is one of SCCA racing’s largest groups.

The tagline, explained

Nobody out-spends you here.

The arithmetic behind that tagline is simple. We run Spec Racer Fords and nothing else, because every car in the field is the same car. The engine, the transmission, the ECU and the shocks are sealed and monitored for compliance at the events, so nobody buys their way to the front.

Every dollar you spend goes into seat time and racing rather than into somebody else’s motor. That is where the tagline comes from, and we will show you the line items to prove it.

Everyone has a chance to run at the front

With the equipment question settled, a good result is a good drive. There is no budget to chase and no development war to lose. The quickest car on track is the one with the better driver in it.

You will always have a race

The Spec Racer Ford is one of the largest groups in SCCA racing. Full grids, close racing, and a real race with somebody to dice with from green to checker.

A purpose-built racing car

Not a road car with a cage in it. Open cockpit, closed wheels, built by SCCA Enterprises for paved road courses: 135 horsepower from a 1.6-litre four, a sequential gearbox, no driver aids, and you sitting low enough to feel the surface change.

It is quick enough to teach you everything that matters and forgiving enough to let you learn it. That combination is rarer than it sounds, and it is why this car is one of the most accessible ways into real road racing in the country.

Built to fit you

The cockpit adjusts. You don't.

Seat, pedals and steering column are all adjustable in the car, and a custom insert is available for a closer fit. Check your fit before you book if you're not sure it works for your size.

The handover

You will know this car before you drive it.

Nobody hands you a key and points at the track. Before your first session one of us walks you through the car. You do it, we watch. Every bit of it is written down in the SRF3 Driver Operations & Communication Manual, a tabbed binder that lives in the trailer and is yours for the weekend.

Here is some of what you will pick up.

The moment it lights

Master switch, a wait while the sensor warms, a pulse of the starter, and then half the paddock looks up. It is a ritual more than a procedure, and the first morning you run through it without being prompted is the morning the car starts feeling like yours.

Out-lap, grid, green flag

What actually happens between firing it up and going racing: when to roll, how to put temperature into the car on the out-lap, the way grid forms up, and what the flags are telling you. Somebody walks it through with you, first weekend or fiftieth.

The sequential gearbox

Quick, decisive and unlike anything you have driven on the road. Being gentle with it is the one instinct you have to unlearn. We will have you shifting it properly before you leave the paddock.

What every light on the dash means

Which colour means keep going and tell us, which means come in now, and the one that means pit immediately and do not argue. Plus the numbers the car wants to live between.

How we talk on the radio

What to tell us, what we will feed you, and when you actually need to answer. Agreed with you before the session rather than improvised during it.

What the data says about your driving

The car logs brake pressure, steering, throttle, G and GPS, and films it. You go home with the video. We go through it with you in plain language, not as a spreadsheet.

Read the binder once before your first weekend and there is a one-page reference in the back to scan on grid. Anything it does not answer, ask. Questions are the point, not an interruption.

What's included

Driver and car services, in one rental.

You get data and video after every session, and we go through both with you in plain language. We work with you before the weekend, at the track and after it, and the same crew meets you at the trailer every time. Cliff White and Mark Eaton coach for B2, and Evan Slater, Morgan Burkhard and Dave Ogburn are coaches in our network. Coaching is included at race weekends; for track days and time trials we arrange it with you in advance.

Ready when you arrive.

Data and video after every session, the same crew every weekend, and a price you can read line by line before you book. It works the same for a test day or a full race weekend. Price your weekend on the calculator, check your fit, or find a date on the calendar.
