About B2 Motorsports · Huntsville, AL
A family operation, thirty years in the paddock.
We put people in Spec Racer Fords and stand behind the wall with them. Same crew, same awning, every weekend. Here is who we are and how we got here.
The name
Why B2
Three reasons, and all of them are true. You can Be a driver Too: racing is not only for people on television. Business to Business: our customers help each other turn a passion into something that pays for itself, and we make the introductions. And Boom-Boom, the name Cliff earned with a crash at Road Atlanta in 2001, his rookie Spec Racer season. It was not the only crash that year, but it was the one that stuck, and Mark Eaton still brings it up.
Two generations, in one column
How we got here
- 1976
Cliff's father, Wade White, starts racing A and B Production Corvettes in the SCCA.
- 1990
Cliff starts racing quarter midgets, age five, with the Huntsville Quarter Midget Association.
- Late 1990s
Karts: WKA road racing and sprint racing, including the track that is now Music City Karting.
- 2001
First Spec Racer Ford season. SCCA Southeast Division Rookie of the Year. Also more than a few crashes, including the one at Road Atlanta that made him Boom-Boom.
- 2002
SCCA SRF Pro Series Rookie of the Year. Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship.
- 2004–2005
Super late models on the ovals.
- 2011
Back in the Spec Racer Ford for good. Rocky Mountain Division National points champion.
- 2012
SCCA SRF National Champion, Road America, with a last-corner pass for the win. Road Racing Drivers Club Mark Donohue Award.
- 2014
National Champion again, Laguna Seca, the closest Runoffs finish the class had seen. SCCA Presidents Cup finalist.
- 2015
National Champion a third time, at Daytona, by a nose at the line. Southeast Division Driver of the Year.
- 2016
Crosses the line first in Spec Racer Ford Gen3 at the Runoffs at Mid-Ohio, then is disqualified in post-race tech. In the paddock it is still “mufflergate.”
- March 2017
Wins both Spec Racer Ford Gen3 races at the SCCA Super Tour at Circuit of the Americas, with more than seventy cars on the grid.
- 2019
B2 buys a TA2 car to give young Spec Racer drivers a professional shot.
- 2020
The car's first Trans Am TA2 start, Sebring, with Cliff driving: 17th on the grid, 15th at the flag, and a long list of lessons. Franklin Futrelle takes over the seat at Road Atlanta in November.
- March 2021
Franklin Futrelle gives B2 its first TA2 win, at Road Atlanta, in the car's fifth TA2 start. Second on the grid, the lead on the outside of turn one, held for forty laps, and the fastest lap of the race.
- May 2021
Evan Slater's TA2 debut, Lime Rock Park. His third time in the car, the team's first wet sessions ever, and he qualified fifth. A lap down at the finish after mistakes on the pit wall, running top-ten pace. He found a fully funded TA2 ride two years later.
- 2022
The shop on Bob Wallace Ave opens, and the focus turns to the Spec Racer community. One SRF in the area.
- Since 2022
Steady growth. Four new Spec Racer Ford owners in the Huntsville area, and more than twenty new racers we are helping along the way.
- 2026
Arrive-and-drive rentals, coaching, storage and member services from one shop, with the same people at every one of them.
The shop
2919A Bob Wallace Ave, Huntsville, AL.
Home since 2022: the cars, the crew, and now storage bays for members.
The people behind the cars
The B2 Motorsports team
You are not handed off between weekends. This is the B2 Motorsports team that preps the cars, runs the office and works the radio all season. Cliff and Mark coach for B2, and Evan Slater, Morgan Burkhard and Dave Ogburn are coaches in our network.
Cliff "Boom-Boom" White
Owner, driver coach
Three SCCA SRF national titles (2012, 2014, 2015), the 2012 RRDC Mark Donohue Award, and more than twenty years in the Spec Racer Ford. Works with drivers on weekend and session goals and reads the data with them afterward.
Mark Eaton
SRF consultant and driver coach
Mark's résumé goes back to Robinson Motorsports, where he was selling Spec Racers and Formula Enterprises cars at nineteen. In nearly thirty years of Spec Racer Ford he has seen and done it all, including two Formula Enterprises National Championships (2007, 2008) and the 2008 Triple Crown. He consults for the shop, backs up our driver coaching and joins the team on big weekends. Mark is B2 South: based in Melbourne, Florida, with one of our rental cars, close to Daytona and Sebring.
Todd White
Crew Chief
Cliff's cousin. More than twenty years in building, maintenance and construction, which is why the shop looks the way it does. The person on the radio when it counts.
Michael Pfeiffer
Operations Manager and mechanic
Runs the day-to-day business: bookkeeping, contracts, customer communications, shipping and storage administration, and works on the shop floor and at race weekends wherever he is needed. Michael played baseball from age eight up to Division I at Eastern Michigan University before turning a lifelong passion for motorsports into a job. What he likes most is the people: finding the solution that works, whether a customer needs a place to work on their own car, a spot to store it, or support with a racing program. Five years out, he wants B2 to keep growing without losing the family-owned feel: the go-to shop for SRF3 preparation and support, the best DIY storage and membership garage in Alabama, and the same personal relationships with every customer.
“It is a sport that constantly challenges you, no matter how much experience you have, and always finds a way to humble you when you think you have everything figured out.”
Part-time crew
Race weekends and the shop
The mechanics, crew and hospitality help who join us when the weekend is big or the shop is busy.
How we work
Three things we will always do
Classes on alignment, help choosing gear and a used car, one-on-one coaching. Lack of information is the biggest hurdle in this sport; we remove it.
Line-item pricing, our maintenance checklists shared, and a conversation before anything unexpected goes on an invoice.
This is an expensive sport. We will actively discourage spending that does not improve safety, performance or the experience.
Who our drivers are
The people in the cars
Some came from sim racing, some from karts, some had never been on a track. One has been racing since 1976. See the routes in, from the first track day to a full season.
The VRBO had a big game room, ping pong, foosball, a dartboard, and enough space that our debriefs kept getting interrupted by somebody's questionable serve. It made the weekend feel like a team weekend.Summer Sizzle at Road Atlanta
